Through powerful encounters and engaging catechesis, our EDGE (middle school) and Life Teen (high school) teens are immersed in a dynamically Catholic parish culture. With the parish as their true home, our teens are then further strengthened by our Summer Conferences, Events, Resources, and Digital (web and social media) evangelization.
Our goal is not only to provide “reach” today’s teens, but also to create an environment where Catholic teenagers feel supported and engaged the other 167 hours a week, outside of Sunday Mass.
Music is such an integral part of everyone's life. At IHM Youth Ministry, music plays a large part in our weekly meetings: from contemporary praise and worship music to karaoke and more, you can always expect live music at our youth group nights.
Forget everything you ever thought you knew about youth group!! Every week, expect to be engaged with a fun and meaningful activity not only meant to be exciting, but to also make you think!
What would youth group be without a bonfire and s'mores?! You can always expect a great time every week at youth group with sports, Nerf, karaoke and singing "Let it Go" just one too many times! :)
We all know how busy life can be for teens, but parents and adults know that their lives are usually busier. With that in mind, IHM Youth Ministry isn't just for teens anymore. Understanding that teens are reluctant to talk to parents or other adults about what happens at youth group, ("How was youth group, what did you guys do?" - "Good, lots of stuff" as a typical conversation might go), we will be releasing this year special Parent Life and Family Life youth group nights focusing on giving parents and families time to get away from the chaos of life, to relax, and to grow in their faith journey.
Additionally, throughout the year, many youth group events will be open to the entire parish community. This is a great opportunity to support our teens and help build them up in their faith journey.
Another way adults can get involved with youth ministry is to be a part of the Core Team or Sponsor Team.
The Core Team is a team of adults and young adults who come to youth group meetings and help set up, break down, lead small groups and journey with teens on their faith journey. They might go to local sports games, plays and other events the teens are involved in to support our youth in their activities.
The Sponsor Team is a team of adults who choose to help the youth group with their weekly costs. Whether it is donating a meal for the night, offering to purchase supplies or sponsoring a teen's retreat experience costs, the Sponsor Team is an integral part of youth ministry at IHM.
The Steubenville Youth Conference, held each summer, is the culmination of our youth ministry year. Each year, teens dive into their faith, encountering God in the Mass, dynamic talks and witnesses, exciting live music and Eucharistic adoration. This is a trip not to be missed! Information will be available in mid-October 2014.
Each youth group night is set up to allow teens to have an encounter with God. These can be direct encounters in the Eucharist, Mass and meditation, or indirect encounters through fellowship and team-building. Our goal is to build up our young people and help them to feel welcomed in the Church.
More important than being present at youth group meetings is being visible to the youth of the parish and surrounding community. As a result, the Core Team and youth ministers make a point to attend events throughout the year to support not only members of the youth group, but all of the community's teens.
